The acursed Land of Lodoss has been separated from the main continent in the far past.The cause of this was to defeat a great evil Godess that fough against Martha the Godess of Earth , Martha defeated her but before she could seal the evil Godess away she used the last of her power to curse the land.To save it Martha divided the Main Continent in 2 creating Lodoss a new but still cursed land.Many new magical creatures were summoned from the spirit realm at the time but those who couldn't return stayed living in Lodoss, like Elves & dworfs.In the far future we see a set of main characters like the free Knight Parn & the high Elf Deedlit who join other characters to defeat the evil Dragon Shooting Star , the second part of the series set 10 years in the future introduces other main characters like the Knight in training Spark joined by his group of mercenary's who must stop the Evil Nightmare that threatens to resurect the great evil that was sealed by Martha in the past , can the good guys stop the evil sorcerer behind it all in time or will it be too late & will Lodoss meet it's doomed fate that awaits ? well that's something you have to find out for yourself.ROLW is truly one of the best Fantasy Anime around with great character development & animation.

Parn
The main hero in the OVA & the first part of the series, Parn the free Knight who looks up to the King of Flame, King Kashue , in the OVA Parn was still gaining expirience to be a Knight.He's ally is the High Elf Deedlit who has accompied him 15 years total since the OVA till the end of the TV series.Parn is very mature and is looked up to as a great Knight by Spark the Knight in training.He's 18 in the OVA , 23 in the first half of the TV series & 33 in the second half.

Deedlit The High Elf
She acompied Parn in his journey , in the OVA she was less mature than in the TV series.She's more than 160 years old altought she resembles a 25 yearl old.Like all Elves she has blond hair & clear eyes.Her appearance is very wise & mature , well she's not like that all the time.She has very strong feelings for Parn , I guess she hasn't told him yet.Proof of this is when Shiris from the first half of the series gets too close to Parn you can see the blushing Deedlit giving Shiris a very mean look.Her nickname is Deed.

Orson
For what I've seen he appears in the first half of the TV series, he & Shiris he's companion join Parn & his group on their journey.When Orson was just a kid an evil demon or something killed his big sister , he was there to see it.The evil demon took possesed Orson , in other words whenever he gets mad he turns into an almost unstopible human/monster like creature , then he turns back human when he cools of.He has kind of a stoic personality but later in the series he expreses his feelings better with help from Shiris I guess.
Shiris
The red head companion of Orson , I think she has some feelings for him , she helps Parn & Deed defeat an evil dragon in an island somewhere.That's about all I know about her.

Slayn
Helps Parn & Deed in the OVA and in the TV series, he marries & has a daughter , Little Neese named after her Grandmother Neese , one of the six heroes.

King Kashue
King of Flame (somewhere in Lodoss) , Parn looks up to him , he fights against Shoting Star King Kashue thinks that one day Spark the Knight in training might become the new king of Flame.

Spark
The Knight in training , Spark is the Captain of his group of mercenary's , he doesn't seem to have much confidence at times but he really cares about his companions & easily makes friends with them .He's not very mature & is a bit hot headed but he truly has the heart to become a Knight.He looks up to Parn allot.In the first half of the series he is shown as a little kid no more than 10 but in the second half of the series set 10 years later he's 21.To the end of the series he has fallen in love with little Neese but she's in danger of being killed by the evil sorcerer that will try to use her to resurect the evil Godess to do his dirty work for him.So Spark & his group must find the magic sceptor used to control minds of others before the evil sorcerer's henchman do.Anyway Spark is a really good looking Anime guy.

Little Niece
The Grandaughter of Niece ( one of the six heroes) , the daughter of Slayn .Niece is able to use Holy magic.She's very mature for her age, "Little " really doesn't fit her since she's like 15 but I guess it's just to be kind to her.She has a very caring personality & cares about her friends.She faces her destiny with no fear even if it may lead her to death , she calm with it & accepts it.She seems to hang around Leaf allot, probably since they are both around the same age.The evil sorcerer needs her because she is of royal blood & is still pure so thats why the bad sorcerer doesn't get her mother instead.I'm not sure what happens at the end of the series but I think she gets to be very close to Spark.

Mercenary's
A)Leaf
Offspring of a male Elf & a human female .Being born like that makes her an outcast in both human & Elves.She does not care what others think.She's proud of what she is.She can use Elf magic that is the use of Earth Elements.She's about 15 years old & can grow to be double the age of a human.She likes to tease Spark.She tends to be mischief & curious at times often getting her into trouble.
B)Lyna
A pink haired women, she used to be a thief.She's mature & is a quick thinker.She likes to hit on Spark.She lost her lover Randy because of a curse some Dark Elves put on him, she wants revenge.She later confeses her secret & becomes part of the group.
C)Grievas
A dworf , he helps out by curing people & usin the power the God of War gives him in battle.
D)
Ald-nova
I'm guessing he's a friend of Niece's parents because he seems to be guarding her at times.He probably knew her since she was a baby.He also uses magic attacks to help out.
E)
Galack
A "Mercenary" , really sent out by King Kashue to make sure that Captain Spark makes the right decisions & is ok.He has a thing for Lyna.

Ashram
Used to be a bad Knight in the first half of the series , I think he later turns good but still wants to finish his battle with Parn.

Pirotess
Like Deedlit with Parn , she sticks like glue to Ashram, I'm guessing she loves him.She's a dark Elf since Dark Elves have Dark skin but a very good looking one at that.

Evil Sorcerer
I forgot his name, like I mentioned before he wants to use the 2 magical objects , the red cristal orb & the sceptor to resurect the evil Godess & take her under his control with the sceptor.He needs to sacrifice Niece first.That's why he needs to capture her & what better way than the most bunerable time, when she's asleep.That's why Niece mentions the Dark Nightmare.
Dark Elves
Evil henchman.In "Welcome to Lodoss Island" Sweet Tooth the Dark Elf want to get Neese's cookies.
